MNT Reform Motherboard 3.0

The latest version 3.0 of the MNT Reform motherboard.

With this new version you get USB-C power delivery, the NVMe SSD slot bumped from 1x to 4x PCIe lanes (for RK3588), a fixed headphone jack detection (resistor update), and a lot more. A detailed list of changes can be found below.

Note: If you ordered an MNT Reform laptop and it hasn't been shipped yet, it will automatically receive the motherboard upgrade and contain the latest 3.0 version.

Features

Changes (version 2.5 to 3.0):

  • Barrel jack replaced with USB-C power delivery input (via firmwareless TPS25730)
  • USB-UART chip added that offers CPU debug consoles and system controller debug UART on that same USB-C port (CY7C65215)
  • Old 5V and 3V3 main buck converters replaced with modern ones from MNT Reform Next (LM62460)
  • Direct power input header added for custom power solutions like solar
  • NVMe SSD slot bumped from 1x to 4x PCIe lanes (for RK3588)
  • PCIe reference clocking chip updated for PCIe Gen 3 support
  • LTC4020 charge current overdraw fixed/limited
  • 5V power rails for USB redone for higher current and increased capacitance to handle more USB device power draw
  • USB hub upgraded to TUSB8041 from TUSB8040
  • Unnecessary internal 5V and 3V3 power switches removed
  • Added QwiiC port for I2C expansion via LPC (for example for sensors)
  • Added QwiiC port for I2C expansion via CPU
  • SD card slot model replaced (old one is no longer produced)
  • 1V8 LDO updated for more modern one
  • Some unnecessary/unused resistors, signals, headers removed
  • Improved/redrew some routing and ground fill

Please note: Since the barrel jack was replaced by a USB-C port, we recommend upgrading the steel port covers to the latest version 3.0.
